Estonia has been considered one of the most digitized countries in the world. Although there are many nations that have also gone through the process of digitization, none have perhaps benefited from it as much as Estonia
The banking sector and schools were among the first to undergo digitization during the 90’s. The next step Estonia took was to implement an online voting system, a project established at the beginning of the last decade. As of today, nearly third of the Estonian population votes online. The former president of Estonia, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, has said that the trust in the system is high. Citizens who vote online have the oppurtunity to confirm and change their votes up until the deadline – something that might be unusual to most people around the globe. However, Estonia is now looking to take it a step further and has it’s sights on reforming the field of personalized medicine with it’s new comprehensive genome project.
